Fact: when I was a junior in high school, I got a job as the youngest-ever employee of Versace working their sales floor in an outdoor shopping plaza in Honolulu, HI. I lasted about three months before I was fired for sucking at sales in general. But in the meantime, I formed an odd attachment to the brand that has never really gone away. I don't wear it, I don't shop it, I don't even really think about it very much--but for reasons unknown, there's a special little place in my heart for it.
That's why I am particularly thrilled with this Christopher-Kane-designed Versus collection. The junior line to Versace's main line (think Miu Miu to Prada) is filled with dangerously beautiful, sharply molded teenage homecoming queen vampires. Kane likened them to "toy soldiers," I see fanged goths. Tomato, to-mah-toe. Point is, Versus is back. And this time around, I'll actually slip into a little leather or satin something and turn this emotional attachment into a physical one.
